A new section in Nepenthes (Nepenthaceae) and a new species from Sulawesi Naturalis
Cheek, M.; Jebb, M..
Nepenthes section Tentaculatae of Borneo and Sulawesi is described and delimited, with a key to the nine species, including N. maryae of Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, which is here assessed as Vulnerable under criterion D2 using the 2001 IUCN standard. It is hypothesised that this species might trap insects using a ‘flick of the lid’ mechanism.

Begonia siccacaudata (Begoniaceae). A new species from Sulawesi Naturalis
Doorenbos, J..
A new species Begonia siccacaudata is described. It belongs to the sect. Petermannia but is distinguished from other species by being stemless with a short fleshy rhizome. The female flowers are solitary, the male flowers are borne on a many-flowered thyrsoid inflorescence of a type not yet described within the genus. The epithet siccacaudata refers to the axes of the inflorescences which persist for a long time after dying off.

First record of a Tachaea species from Sulawesi (Indonesia) with description of its manca stage (Isopoda, Flabellifera, Corallanidae) Naturalis
Bowman, Thomas E.; Botosaneanu, Lazare.
A corallanid isopod in the manca stage (lacking pereopod 7), collected from alluvial gravel along the Batui River in Sulawesi, Indonesia, and identified questionably as Tachaea lacustris Weber, 1892, is illustrated and described in detail. Tachaea lacustris was known previously only from freshwater lakes in Sumatra and Java. Its presence in river alluvial gravel should not be interpreted as possible adaptation to the hyporheic habitat.

Indonesian sponges of the genus Petrosia Vosmaer (Demospongiae: Haplosclerida) Naturalis
Voogd, N.J. de; Soest, R.W.M. van.
Sponges of the genus Petrosia (Demospongiae: Haplosclerida) are large and characteristic components of many Indonesian reefs. We identify and provide descriptions of seven species of Petrosia collected recently on SW Sulawesi reefs (Eastern Indonesia), two of which are new to science: Petrosia (Petrosia) alfiani spec. nov. and Petrosia (Petrosia) hoeksemai spec. nov. Additional species recorded are Petrosia (Petrosia) lignosa Wilson, 1925, Petrosia (Petrosia) nigricans Lindgren, 1897, Petrosia (Petrosia) plana Wilson, 1925, Petrosia (Strongylophora) corticata (Wilson, 1925) and Petrosia (Strongylophora) strongylata Thiele, 1903. The species are discussed and compared with Petrosia records from other Indonesian and neighbouring Indo-West Pacific areas. We...

Larger benthic foraminifera and their distribution patterns on the Spermonde shelf, South Sulawesi Naturalis
Renema, W.; Hoeksema, B.W.; Hinte, J.E. van.
A systematic description of the distributional pattern of 20 species of larger benthic foraminifera on the Spermonde Archipelago and their relation with environmental parameters is presented. Around 13 islands transects at the exposed and leeward slope were sampled. Apart from parameters like substrate type, hydrodynamic energy and light intensity (directly related to depth) also nutrient availability and environmental stabiltity determine the distribution over the shelf. Some of the species, and especially the calcarinids, are less specialised to some of these parameters than in other areas. Elphidium craticulatum, showing chloroplast husbandry, is an important fauna component.

Monocelididae and Archimonocelididae (Platyhelminthes Proseriata) from South Sulawesi (Indonesia) and Northern Australia with biogeographical remarks OMA
Martens, P.M.; Curini-Galletti, M.C..
Thirteen new species of the Monocelididae and three Archimonocelididae from South Sulawesi and North Australia are described. More than 2/3 of the species belong to the subfamily Minoninae; among them, seven pertain to the genus Duplominona which in tropical areas seems to be the dominant genus among the Proseriata, colonizing a wide range of habitats.

New hydroptilid caddisfly species from southern Sulawesi (Insecta: Trichoptera: Hydroptilidae) Naturalis
Wells, A.; Huisman, J..
Six new species of micro-caddisfly (Trichoptera: Hydroptilidae) are described from southern Sulawesi in the genera Chrysotrichia (1 species), Niuginitrichia (1, being the first record of Niuginitrichia outside New Guinea), Hydroptila (1) and Orthotrichia (3). The faunal list for Sulawesi is increased further by addition of a second widespread SE Asian species of Oxyethira and three other species of Orthotrichia; and distributions of several species previously recorded from the island are extended. Thirty-one hydroptilid species in eight genera are now recorded for Sulawesi; a ninth genus is listed, but solely on the basis of larvae.

New records, names and combinations of scaly tree ferns (Cyatheaceae) in eastern Malesia Naturalis
Coritico, F.P.; Amoroso, V.B.; Lehnert, M..
Several scaly tree ferns (Cyatheaceae) from eastern Malesia are transferred from Cyathea s.lat. to other genera: Alsophila roroka from Sulawesi; Alsophila lamoureuxii from New Guinea; Alsophila binayana, A. bisquamata, A. mapahuwensis, A. murkelensis, A. ohaensis, and Sphaeropteris pukuana from Seram. A new name is chosen for Cyathea coriacea, Alsophila katoi, which here is first reported for the Vogelkop Peninsula, New Guinea. Alsophila commutata, a tree fern with branched trunks, is first reported from the Philippines, expanding its original distribution from the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo. A detailed and revised diagnostic description of this species is provided and a second-step lectotype is chosen.

Notes on macroglossine bats from Sulawesi and the Moluccas, Indonesia, with the description of a new species of Syconycteris Matschie, 1899 from Halmahera (Mammalia: Megachiroptera) Naturalis
Rozendaal, F.G..
A recent collection of bats from northern Sulawesi (Celebes), Halmahera and Bacan (Batjan), Indonesia, contains representatives of three macroglossine genera. A specimen of Eonycteris rosenbergii (Jentink, 1889) from northern Sulawesi — a species previously known only from the immature type specimen — together with an additional, previously unreported specimen confirms the diagnostic value of the absence of the third lower molar. The validity of this taxon has been questioned by several authors, who suggested that E. rosenbergii is based on an anomalous specimen of E. spelaea (Dobson, 1871). Other material of Eonycteris from Sulawesi, referable to spelaea, is discussed, with the first record for the island of Muna (Moena), and comparative notes are given...
